Welcome to the 4x4 Starlet section of the site. Within this part of the database we are trying to collect all information relating to the Starlet 4 wheel drive EP85 and latter EP95.
A few years ago, here in the uk there was a stigma about whether the drivetrain on the 4WD variants were up to the task, but a few people knew otherwise.
The actual shaft and diff are bigger than what you would find on a bug eyed Impreza.
There are now enough 4x4 Starlet turbos floating about with 300bhp to dispel the Myth.
Quick low down:
- Gearbox uses same uprated internals as the Starlet turbo variants.
- Transfer case and rear diff are good for up to 300BHP.
- The highest recorded Power of a 4x4 Starlet is 350BHP.
- The drive split is 60/40 front, rear.
- The front and rear use open diffs, but it is possible to convert an Ae92 LSD for the front wheels.
- The Gearbox uses a 4.3 final drive so under turbo power there is ample acceleration in each gear, you will top out at 130.
- Early EP85 models came with a rear anti roll bar, checking the EPC there are three different sizes.
